THE WORK

Crazy Mountain Brewing Company Exterior Mural

In the Spring of 2016 I was commissioned to design and execute a mural for Crazy Mountain Brewing Company. The company is based out of Edwards, CO and has expanded to multiple locations in Denver. The above mural was painted at their Baker neighborhood Taproom and Beer garden at 471 Kalamath Street. Each of their craft beers is represented by a 'creature' that usually combines 2 to 3 animals that you would find in Colorado. I was instantly reminded by the artwork of Maurice Sendak from his children's book 'Where The Wild Things Are'. My design, realized on a 30' x 8' wall, combines seven of their creatures depicted in a classic illustration of Sendak's book all create by hand using exterior house paint, brushes and large oil based Sharpies.

Salvation Army Murals

A friend of mine works for the Salvation Army. She and some of her colleagues approached me to design and paint three murals at their Lambuth Family Center here in Denver. The center houses homeless families that are trying to get back on their feet. Two of the three murals are located in a playroom and a library. The goal was to create something family friendly and inspiring. Naturally we all gravitated towards Dr. Seuss and both murals reference many of his works.
The third mural is still a work in progress. It's concept is 'The Tree of Hope'. It's going to be a more interactive mural in that I am creating leaf templates that will contain information about specific goals that families meet. For instance, a mother may get her first paycheck. Families will fill these out and physically hang them on the mural to celebrate met goals.

Crazy Mountain Brewing Company Freelance Graphic Design Work

The marketing crew over at Crazy Mountain Brewing Company (CMB) and I have recently been working on a much more consistent basis in a variety of digital and print projects. The ball really started rolling with a revamp of their existing business card design. Since then we've accomplished some Bounce Back cards for the 2018 Great American Beer Festival, A two-color, hand screen-printed, promotional poster for the inaugural Grandoozy music festival, Taproom signage and banners, a Growler graphic, CMB specific apparel and Social Media Ads, just to name a few. Take a look below at some of this featured work!

Illustration

Most of the work included in my 'Illustration' section are multicolored screen prints and paintings. Most of my personal artwork is influenced by Pareidolia, or an aptitude of seeing faces in unlikely places. The creative process usually starts with a scribble. The sketch is then further examined and/or modified until a face emerges. The sketches are then scanned, lightly modified on the computer and used in the screen printing process or enlarged and hand painted on a variety of materials.

Graphic Design

Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy

In addition to my everyday responsibilities as a visual arts teacher, I also wear a variety of other creative hats around my school. I've been known to take the lead design and developer role for all in house graphic design, illustration, and video production for promotion and events. I collaborate with with colleagues, administration, outside venders and parent liaisons to organize and market community events such as First Friday art shows, plays and concerts. Lastly, I teach Yearbook section in which I oversee all aspects of the creation and printing processes. In this section, you will find a variety of concepts that I designed and executed ranging from apparel to promotional materials to teaching resources.

Work(s) In Progress

In addition to teaching full-time, freelancing and raising two boys under the age of three I stay busy doodling and designing. Here are a couple of things that I've been working on...
